Dr. Regina Tobin, DVM, DACVIM
(Small Animal Internal Medicine)
Dr. Regina Tobin attended veterinary school at Cornell University. Following her graduation in 1994, she completed a one year internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Dr. Tobin then spent a year in general practice in the Boston area before starting her small animal internal medicine residency at UC Davis. She became board certified in small animal internal medicine in 1999. Dr. Tobin has worked in clinical practice in Oregon since 1998, with the exception of a two year period when she worked as a consultant for a major diagnostic lab.
Dr. Tobin's areas of interest within small animal internal medicine include liver disease, kidney disease, gastrointestinal disease, immune mediated disorders and hormonal diseases.
Dr. Tobin feels strongly that her role as a small animal internist is to offer clients all diagnostic options that are available for their pets, provide compassionate high quality care to her patients and support her clients through difficult decisions.
When she is not working, Dr. Tobin enjoys camping, reading and traveling. She has started horseback riding, an activity she enjoys with her daughter.
Dr. Tobin is very excited to be joining the staff of Sunstone Veterinary Specialists in September 2017. She is looking forward to working with her clients and patients in the personalized setting that Sunstone offers.
Lillian Su, DVM, MVSc, CCRP, DACVS
(Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon)
Dr. Lily Su is thrilled to be serving the Portland pet community at Sunstone Veterinary Specialists! She has focused her veterinary career specifically on the practice of small animal surgery since 2005. She is a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon.
Lily was able to hone her medical and surgical skills through several internships after graduating from veterinary school at UC Davis in 2004. Despite being a native Californian, she managed to survive Canadian winters well enough to complete her Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Saskatchewan in 2011. (Although she did come away with some Canadian-isms, Eh?)
Prior to joining the team at Sunstone, Lily spent the last 4 years as a Clinical Instructor in Small Animal Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she enjoyed teaching students, interns, and residents while operating on both the Soft Tissue and Orthopedic Surgery services.
While Lily enjoys all types of surgery (soft tissue, oncologic, orthopedic, neurosurgery), she loves nothing more than to see her patients live happier, better quality lives. To that end, Lily has a strong interest in post-operative recovery and rehabilitation and she has been a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner since 2008. She is excited to bring high quality, personalized, and comprehensive surgical care to Sunstone.
When not working, Lily looks forward to spending time with her perfect (but slightly naughty) herd of animals, trying out interesting places for food / drink, and exploring the mountains and rivers of the Pacific Northwest.
Joshua Elliott, MA, DVM, DACVIM
(Small Animal Internal Medicine)
Dr. Josh Elliott is excited for a new chapter in his life and career. He is a Board Certified Veterinary Internal Medicine Specialist. He has been practicing in the greater Portland Metro Area since 2008 when he finished his Residency in Internal Medicine at the California Animal Hospital.
In addition to maintaining a busy internal medicine service at a large specialty center, over the past 4 years he has trained in the martial art of Aikido. Last year he traveled to Japan to test for his black belt. It was a great joy to receive his certificate in Japan and from the dojo of his trainer’s teacher. Aikido is an enjoyable source of exercise and serenity for Josh. His entire family trains together, time permitting.
Josh and his family moved to the Pacific Northwest so that he could join a veterinary specialty practice where he could practice a high quality of medicine and be able to make a good life and a future for his family. Over the past seven years his family has grown and blossomed in this community. They love all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Josh especially loves snowboarding.
Recently, Josh has chosen to move on and expand his horizons, creating Sunstone Veterinary Specialists. This new venture will allow him to continue to practice the level of high quality of medicine with the personalized service he values.
Josh performed his rotating small animal internship and internal medicine residency in Southern California. He attended UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
Prior to Veterinary School he spent 8 years in Santa Cruz, California where he completed his undergraduate degree in Marine Biology as well as a Master’s Degree in Biology. He and his wife met as freshmen and were married a short 4 years later.

Katie graduated in 2009 from the Veterinary Technology Program at Portland Community College. She worked at a Portland emergency hospital during school, then worked as an LVT for 6 years at an emergency and specialty hospital in Southwest Washington. There, she gained invaluable experience in the ER before transitioning to the Internal Medicine Department the last 2 years she was there. She also graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor of Sciences in Biology from Washington State University Vancouver and is currently undergoing special training to obtain her Specialty Technician License in Internal Medicine. As the internal medicine assistant, Colleen is usually busy helping Dr. Elliott with medical records and procedures, answering client questions and ensuring that every patient is as comfortable as possible. She takes pride in making the internal medicine team run smoothly and is extremely excited to join the Sunstone family.
Colleen was born and raised in the Seattle area and graduated from Washington State University in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Zoology. Alicia, AA, AAS, CVT
Alicia is the surgery technician here at Sunstone Veterinary Specialists. She has been an Oregonian her whole life and is the youngest of three with two older brothers. Animals have always held a special place in her heart and she is so thankful to be where she's at today. She attended the PCC Vet Tech Program where she earned her associates of applied science in Veterinary Technology. She has been certified since 2009 and for the past 8 years she has been working at a mixed animal/small animal practice and is super excited to start her journey as a surgery tech with Sunstone Vets!
She has two cats; Sparrow was a rescue with one eye and Alfie was a rescue in her younger days and has two eyes! She also rescued Missy, a German Shepherd, but would love to rescue a Greyhound one day!
In her spare time she loves to fish, read, run, hike, spend time with family/friends, and hang out with her niece. She also loves the fall when she gets to work on her families pumpkin farm!
Patient Care Nurse
James is our Patient Care Nurse here at Sunstone. She strives to leave the best impression possible with her patients with the hope that if their paths were ever to meet again, that pet would remember her as a friend. She takes great pride in providing the most comfortable environment possible while pets are away from home.
As a teenager, she worked as a “pack kid” scrubbing medical instruments at a 25 doctor, 24 hour Emergency Animal Hospital. She immediately fell in love with it and, through hard work, began ascending to different positions. From pack kid to doctor's assistant, then surgery assistant, and finally ICU technician. She is now celebrating her 18th year in Veterinary Medicine taking some time off to earn an Associates degree in Applied Science at Mt. Hood C.C in 2013. She has spent the last 4 years at a SW Washington ER/Specialty Animal Hospital dividing her time between assisting in ER, ICU and Oncology and along the way developing a special interest in palliative and hospice care.
In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out at home with her partner and their 3 small dogs, enjoying nature, watching good movies and believing in Bigfoot. She loves bugs, the smell of used comic books, and the sound of Leon Redbone. We are thrilled to have her with us at Sunstone, and we are so grateful for the ownership she has taken to provide the very best care for our patients.
My name is Kathryn and I am excited to be the new Veterinary Assistant here at Sunstone! I will start off by telling you a little bit about myself. I have gone by Kat since I was young and I’m from far away Springfield, Missouri. Over the past ten months, my boyfriend and I have been planning a move to Portland. Neither of us have visited before, but it’s somewhere that we wanted to be and something we wanted to try while still young. So, we packed up our bags and took off! I have two cats named Winston and Izzy who may be a little spoiled. In my spare time I love spending time with my kitties. I also enjoy hiking, camping, horseback riding and traveling.
I am an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant who wants to provide the highest quality care to both pets and their people. I believe my passion for animals and awareness for their needs allows me to succeed. I have always loved working with animals and have been a Veterinary Assistant since 2011. One of my goals I have planned for myself is to become a Certified Veterinary Technician one day. I love working as part of a team and helping others out in any way that I can. I am very excited to be joining Sunstone Veterinary Specialists this year and I look forward to what the future may bring.
Hi! I'm Jenne and I'm very excited to be joining the team here at Sunstone. I've lived in Portland since the 90's, when I relocated here for school. I graduated from Reed College in 1999 and worked as a field orinithologist (songbirds/raptors) for several years before I decided to settle down and work with non-wild animals. I managed a doggy daycare for 4 years before I started in veterinary medicine. I have worked in the back as an assistant and in the front as a client care specialist, and I've worked both general practice and specialty medicine. I have also been on the other side of the desk when my own pets have required urgent specialty care, so I know how scary it can feel when something is wrong with them.
I live in Milwaukie with my husband, Michael. We have 4 dogs: Dewey the Golden, A.J. the mini schnauzer, Sparrow the corgi/chihuahua mix and Cricket the jack russel/chihuahua mix. We also have 3 cats: Kestrel, Myst and Vajra. We keep chickens and have considered getting a goat or two. In my spare time, I am a big reader (every genre esp history) and gardener, and I love food and cooking/grilling. We also like to play online games and just hang out as a family.
Social Media Coordinator
Sarah joined the team at Sunstone in the summer of 2016 as our Referral Coordinator, and has recently changed roles to become our Social Media Coordinator and Relief Referral Coordinator. She has a background in client services and administration in both the veterinary field as well as other customer service industries. She enjoys being a "people person" and is passionate about making owners feel comfortable when they walk through the door. In addition to working at Sunstone, Sarah runs a successful social media marketing business as a top leader for an international cosmetics company. She is also a full time college student, working to complete her Bachelor's degree in Marketing. Sarah will be working behind the scenes on our social media channels as well as helping wherever she is needed with hospital support.
Sarah grew up just outside of Atlanta, Georgia. She and her husband fell in love with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, and when he retired from the military they chose to raise their family here. She lives in Camas with her husband, their two daughters, and a very spoiled Boxer named Jethro.
With any "down time" life allows, she enjoys taking her family on new adventures, gourmet cooking, building Lego cities with her daughters, and relaxing with a glass of good red wine.
Marie Xavier, BFA, CVT
Marie Xavier completed her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts ages ago at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
She has worked in the greater Portland Metroplex for almost 20 years, ten of which were spent at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital. At Dove, Marie was able to combine her love of design and space planning while working as the Project Manager for the new DoveLewis Northwest location in 2005. Following the construction of the new hospital, Marie worked as the Operations Director for several years.
In late 2007 she was recruited to build a new specialty practice in Southwest Washington. During her tenure as Hospital Director, she opened a new practice in Seattle, built a new 12,000 square foot facility in Vancouver, WA, and hired many wonderful and talented people growing the collective staff from 19 to over 120.
In mid-2015 Marie formed Sunstone with Dr. Josh Elliott. Together they envision an environment where management systems and veterinary leadership make a difference in the lives of their employees, clients and patients.
Today, she is happy to be a 'newly minted' business owner, working dilligently to create a culture that our staff can all be proud of. Sunstone is a wonderful place! We are happy, productive people who share a common bond of doing the right thing, innovating and growing our collective talents and abilities and of course a passion for our patients and clients.
Marie enjoys spending her free time in her garden or at the beach with her wife and their 3 small curly tailed dogs.
